St. Philip’s is a gathering of people committed to serving God and serving others because we believe that service is the work clothes of love. Our church family is a member of the Diocese of East Carolina of the Episcopal Church in the United States, and a member of the worldwide Anglican Communion. We are part of the one, holy catholic and apostolic church that has been carrying on the mission of Jesus Christ for two millennia.
What to Expect at Our Services
Sunday Services
8:00 am – Holy Eucharist Rite I
Our worship at 8:00 AM retains the beauty and dignity of the liturgical style and Elizabethan English found in earlier versions of the Prayer Book. This service is held in the Church and is ideal for those who enjoy quiet early worship without music.
10:00 am – Holy Eucharist Rite II
Our worship at 10:00 AM Holy Eucharist uses more contemporary English. This service features hymns and special music led by the St. Philip’s Church Choir. Hymn numbers are listed in your weekly bulletin typically using the blue Hymnal.

Saturday Service
5:00 pm – Celtic Service
Our Celtic Service at 5:00 PM each Saturday evening in the Main Sanctuary offers a unique blend of meditative silence and calm worship that creates the opportunity to simply be present and to rest in God’s presence. This service includes a short reflection from a regularly scheduled member of the service.

Sunday Memorial Day through Labor Day. Located at 409 NE 52nd Street, Oak Island
Communion
Holy Communion will be served in front of the altar. You may kneel or stand at the altar rail. After you receive the bread, you will be presented with the common cup of wine. The common cup is used for drinking or intinction (dipping). You may choose not to have wine. Please know that receiving communion in one species is still considered a full and valid communion.
Coffee Hour
Please join us in the Parish Hall following the service for refreshments and fellowship. This is an excellent time to meet the clergy, other parishioners, and ask questions, and tour the church. Please feel at home here at St Philip’s! Restrooms are located in the entry area hallway at the north end of the building (to your left as you face the altar). You can also find water fountains near the restrooms.

Yes. A bulletin will provide the prayers, responses, hymns, and instructions for the service. You can also follow the people around you, but there is no pressure to participate in every part.
All baptized Christians are welcome to receive Communion. Those who do not wish to receive may remain seated or come forward for a blessing.
Our services include Scripture readings, prayers, a sermon, music, and Holy Communion. The congregation may stand, sit, or kneel at different times, but visitors are welcome to participate in whatever way feels comfortable.
